Before she passed away, my grandma called me over to her house and gifted me a blurry painting of a sailboat in a stormy sea. The style, if I had to call it something, was Impressionism and the canvas itself was encased by a cheap golden frame: the type of combination that could have been on sale at a discount department store down from $19.99. "Since you said you liked it so much," she said, "I've decided...well, I've decided I want you to have it." I recalled also having said I liked her Panasonic TV and her car, but bringing those up then would have been insensitive.

The first Sunday of every month, the office of Casco Antiguo puts together a flea market in the main square of Casco Viejo. The plaza is decorated with large tents to block the sun and the open-air gazebo is blessed with a nice breeze that comes off the ocean in both directions. The first time I visited this flea market, someone stole my wallet from my back pocket.

When it comes to sneaking onto the set of a major motion
picture, finding myself on the set of the James Bond's new film ‘Quantum of
Solace' was about as symbolic as they come.

They're filming portions of the next James Bond movie here in
Casco which, if nothing else, gives me something new to make fun of.

Last weekend Casco Antiguo hosted a festival of the crafts.
The day was characterized by scolding hot sun, frantic snow cone salesmen, and
some of the neatest crafts I've seen in the country to date.
